PRESS RELEASE - Man Arrested for Gun Charges

On Monday, 10/23/23, at approximately 8pm Marshfield Police received a call from a resident in the area of Ocean Street and Foster Ave. regarding possible gunshots being fired from a home. The caller stated they heard gunshots and saw flashing lights coming from 4 Foster Ave. They also stated they saw “an older gentlemen pacing back and forth on the porch” of 4 Foster Ave. at the time.

Officers proceeded to 4 Foster Ave. where the defendant, David Planchard 4/8/57, allowed them into the home. A second caller reported to dispatch regarding the gunshots as officers were at the home. Officers reported that they could detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the defendant as he spoke with them. Officers located an empty firearm magazine on the kitchen table and proceeded to conduct a protective sweep of the property at this time. They located Two Sig Sauer handguns unsecured in a kitchen drawer. Officers requested a K9 specializing in firearms detection to the scene. Officers located bullet holes in neighboring homes located close to the defendant’s house. The K9 located a spent bullet casing in a bush in the defendant’s yard. The weapon the defendant fired (Sig Sauer P320 45 Cal.) was located by Officers unsecured in a kitchen cabinet. Another handgun was located unsecure in the bedroom closet along with a shotgun and rifle and various ammunition which were properly secured. The handguns and ammunition were taken as evidence and the shotgun and rifle were taken for safekeeping.

Bail was set at $2540 and the defendant was released on bail and scheduled to appear in court this morning to face the following charges:

Improper storage of firearm (4 counts)
Discharge of Firearm within 500 ft. of residence
Disturbing the Peace
Malicious and Wanton Damage (2 counts)
Intoxicated while carrying firearm
Possession of firearm in commission of felony
