Reported Home Invasion

August 7, 2019

On August 3rd, 2019, at approximately 2:58 a.m., Marshfield Police received a 911 call reporting that there was a man with a gun attempting to get into a house on Cherry Street.  The victim reported the suspect fired a semi-automatic handgun at him from 2 different locations around the marsh area behind the house.  The alleged victim reported he returned gunfire at the suspect, heard him scream, and believed he struck the suspect in the leg.

At approximately the same time, Marshfield Police Department received another 911 call reporting possibly three (3) gunshots or really loud bangs in the Cherry Street area.  Marshfield Police Officers along with mutual aid surrounded the entire marsh area in the vicinity where a suspect could be hiding.  A reverse 911 was sent out through the Code Red Program within a one mile radius to alert immediate residents and to ask them to shelter-in-place.  The State Police Air Wing and MetroLEC SWAT Team were activated.  A complete and thorough search of the marsh, neighborhoods, and surrounding areas was completed.  The search included the use of tracking K-9s, ballistic K-9s, metal detectors, SWAT team members, aerial observation, and infrared observation from drones and a helicopter.  No suspect was found at this time and no disturbance to the muddy marsh area was observed.

Police did recover four 9mm spent shell casings from the area that the alleged victim had reported he fired.  No suspect shell casings were discovered, no blood evidence was discovered, and there were no bullet holes found in the vicinity.  Police did recover the 9mm handgun the alleged victim used to fire at the suspect.  No one other than the alleged victim witnessed a suspect, or heard a scream, and no hospitals have reported to us of anyone being a victim of a gunshot wound.

Over the last several days, Marshfield Police Department detectives conducted a complete and thorough investigation.  This investigation was prolonged due to some pertinent witnesses that needed to be interviewed were out-of-state and unavailable.   As a result of our exhaustive investigation, we will be seeking criminal complaints at Plymouth District Court against three individuals that had a role in this incident.   Whereas, these individuals have not been officially charged and where the Court has not yet reviewed the complaints to determine probable cause, their names will be withheld until it is processed by the Court.
